It shuts off with a wave of the hand instead of trying to fumble around looking for a switch. It comes with a nice kit that includes a stand and several different mounting options. The fact that it has a strong magnet makes it easy to cleanly attach and detach depending on what your needs are. I've also taken the lamp off the stand and used it as a flashlight. To save battery power, turn it off when you don't need it and you don't need to put it up to full brightness.
